How Much Enzyme Powder Should I Use Per Cup of Dog Food?

When giving your dog digestive enzymes, accurate & consistent dosing is one of the most important steps to ensure effectiveness. While it can feel confusing at first, following clear feeding guidelines makes this process easier and safer for your dog.

Why Enzyme Dosage Matters

Digestive enzymes help your dog break down proteins, fats, and carbohydrates before they reach the intestines. Too little enzyme powder may not support proper digestion, while too much can sometimes cause stool changes. Getting the right amount for your dog’s meal volume makes a big difference in digestive comfort and nutrient absorption.

Standard Pan-tenex Dosing Instructions

Pan-tenex is a highly concentrated, 10x porcine enzyme supplement. The amount you give depends on your dog’s meal size.

Sprinkle the measured enzyme powder onto the food. Use the correct dose based on your dog’s meal size and product guidelines. For Pan-tenex users, refer to our Feeding Guidelines page for a full chart and detailed instructions.

Adjusting for Meal Size

If you feed multiple smaller meals per day, use the same recommended enzyme amount on each feeding and keep all meals the same size. Enzymes are most effective when matched to the size of the meal, not just the total daily intake.

Start Slow, Then Evaluate

When first introducing enzymes, begin with smallest recommended amount at each meal for the first 4-5 days to help your dog’s system adjust. Only increase the dose if needed based on stool quality after the initial 4 to 5 day waiting period. Watch for signs of improvement in stool consistency, appetite, and overall energy.

Use our Dog Enzyme Digestive Health Stool Tracker to record how your dog responds during the initial 4 to 5 days and following weeks.

When to Make Adjustments

If your dog’s stool remains soft, you may need to slightly increase the enzyme amount per meal. Likewise, if the stool becomes overly firm or more loose, or your dog seems reluctant to eat, try scaling back slightly. Every dog is different, and small adjustments can make a noticeable difference.

Consult Your Veterinarian

Dosing may vary based on product concentration, meal size, and your dog’s individual needs. Always read the product label, and as with any supplement, it should only be given to your dog on the recommendation by and under the supervision of a veterinary professional.
